Adapting and mitigating climate change
ICT actively undertakes climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives to address climate change challenges. Through adaptation we focus on managing and adjusting to the impacts of climate change while aiming to tackle the root causes by reducing GHG emissions, ultimately working towards a more sustainable and resilient future.
The Activities
Tree Planting Activities
ICT often organizes tree planting events involving local residents, schools and community groups to promote environmental awareness and foster community engagement. These activities help combat deforestation, enhance ecosystem resilience, improve air and water quality and contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
GreenSpace
ICT started a green space at Isiolo school of deaf that has been doing well since we started in the year 2019. Greenspaces are invaluable in climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts by sequestering carbon, regulating temperatures, conserving biodiversity, promoting community resilience and educating people about climate change. Our goal for this is to set a practical example and educate our communities and pupils on the importance of the greenspace by use of our visible greenspace. We have also established green spaces in Merti boarding primary school, Gafarsa day secondary school, Almasi children’s home and Kulamawe madrasa in kina ward.
Agroforestry
ICT encourages and supports agroforestry because it is a sustainable land management system that offers a range of environmental, social and economic benefits. By integrating trees with agricultural activities, it enhances ecosystem functions, improve soil and water management, contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation, support biodiversity conservation and provide livelihood opportunities for farmers.
Tree Nurseries
ICT established and continues to maintain nurseries to grow tree seedlings for future planting activities
